Log Cabin Quilt

$800.00

*SOLD*

This bright yellow and blue log cabin quilt with traditional red “hearth” centers will brighten up any bedroom.

This quilt is FOR SALE to help us offset the costs of recent veterinary bills and to help us acquire our new livestock guardian dog.

The quilt block pattern is a very traditional one called “Log Cabin.” The 42 blocks are  arranged in a “Fields and Furrows” setting, giving the striking diagonal stripe effect. This quilt has been professionally machine quilted in Corvallis, Oregon on a Longarm machine (I hire out this step–it takes an expensive machine and specialized skill, both of which I lack) with high quality Warm and Natural brand cotton batting. It will be signed and dated by me on the back. The quilt measures a little more than 84 x 96 inches, and is shown here on a standard king bed and a full (double) bed, so you can see how it fits.

Shipping is included in the price and will include adequate insurance to cover loss. In the unlikely event that the quilt is lost or damaged in transit, I will fully refund you after a successful claim with the USPS. Due to the nature of a handmade item like this I will never be able to replace the quilt.

Description

Freyja, our 13-year-old Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dog, who passed away in January 2023.
As many of you know, we lost both of our dogs three weeks ago. One of our dogs, Freyja, was a Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dog (LGD). Although Freyja was old and mostly retired, she still diligently fulfilled her duty as a livestock guardian as best she could by barking and alerting, especially at night, when predator traffic is heaviest.
We experienced our first predation loss less than two weeks after her death, which prompted us to search for a new LGD who could immediately jump in to fill Freyja’s role (but never take her place ❤️).
Incredibly, we found one! We’re working on getting him here from a goat ranch in northeastern Washington, about eight hours away. Meanwhile, in order to replenish our veterinary fund, I’ve decided to finish up and sell this beautiful red, yellow, and blue king-size quilt.

Quoted from my Facebook post about this quilt:

Many many years ago, before I even had children, I started this quilt, worked on it for a bit, then got distracted. Over the past almost 20 years I have picked it up, worked on it, and gotten distracted again and again. But yesterday I managed to pick it up, cut out the binding strips, stitch them end to end, iron them, and attach them to the back of the quilt. And I didn’t get distracted. I got sleepy. 😆 This morning, miracle of miracles, I went back to work stitching the binding in place, making this my FIRST finished quilt of 2023 (and probably also the project that has taken me longest to ever complete).
This quilt is FOR SALE to help us offset the costs of recent veterinary bills and to help us acquire our new livestock guardian dog.

I think this quilt would work best on a queen or full bed, or as a king bed topper
